What are birthstones? What do they signify?
Birthstones to designate each month of the year were set in a standard chart in by the American National Association of Jewelers of America. The chart and assigned stones are as follows:
January’s birthstone is garnet. It signifies steadfastness.
February’s birthstone is amethyst, and it stands for sincerity.
March’s birthstones are aquamarine, or bloodstone. These gemstones are symbols of wisdom.
April’s birthstone can be a white sapphire, or a diamond. Purity is what the stone represents.
May has two birthstones: green spinel, and emerald. It symbolizes love.
June’s birthstones are: alexandrite, pearl, and moonstone. The gemstones stand for riches.
July’s birthstone is ruby, and it stands for independence or freedom.
August has two birthstones that signify friendship. They are peridot and sardonyx.
September’s birthstones are rose zircons, opals, pink tourmalines. Truth is the meaning conveyed by these gemstones.
October’s two birthstones, topaz (not blue) and citrine, symbolize hope.
November babies can choose from blue zircon, turquoise, or tanzanite for their birthstones. The meaning of these gemstones is fidelity.
December’ s birthstone is blue topaz. It stands for success.
